As part of the comprehensive City Plan 2040, the Roanoke City Council will consider three zoning ordinance changes prior to presentation to the Planning Commission on October 11 and City Council on October 18. The public is invited to provide feedback on action items including:
1. Permitting “accessory apartments” in all residential zoning districts in the City, addressing the need for affordable housing and opportunities for people to age in place.
2. Creating accessory uses for both “electric vehicle charging stations” and “solar energy systems,” to embrace new energy efficient technologies.
3. Eliminating the minimum parking requirements in all zoning districts throughout the City, to avoid requiring parking that is unnecessary and creates large, seldom used parking lots.
These amendments will be presented to the Planning Commission on October 11 and to City Council on October 18.
